Budget Preparation in a Pandemic

The COVID 19 pandemic created for many of us, a "new normal" in the field of budgeting. Assumptions we made in the preparation of an existing budget suddenly changed dramatically - or became invalid. Revenues and expense assumptions were often turned upside down... calling up us to "dig deep" and become creative! In this Shop Talk, in the first half of the session: Joe will briefly review the theory and purpose behind budgeting; he'll present how the budgeting process should work for organizations - or our families; and he'll provide hands-on tips on how to effectively reflect the impact of "black swan" events such as pandemics, recessions or other untoward events. In the second half, Joe will facilitate a vigorous discussion with WSAE members on their experiences in their own budgeting processes during our recent global pandemic.
